Bently is the Herchel Smith Professor of Intellectual Property Law and the Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law at the University of Cambridge. Known for his broad-ranging IP research interests, he has published influential articles on trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, common law and IP, and the history of IP law in Britain and the British Empire. Editor-in-Chief of the Cambridge Law Journal, Bently has also held academic positions at the University of Keele, National University of Singapore and Columbia University. He joined 11 South Square chambers in February 2011.
