Hedy Lamarr
A 1940s Hollywood movie star and distinguished wireless communications innovator who made it into the National Inventors Hall of Fame
Best-known as a 1940s Hollywood film actress, Hedy Lamarr (born Eva Maria Kiesler in Austria, 1914) was also a notable inventor who secured patents in the field of wireless communications. Her inventions aimed to reduce the risk of torpedoes being detected by enemy forces and would later become important for the military, as well as the mobile phone industry.
She was inducted posthumously into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014, having passed away in 2000.
